Resistive Touch Screens
Resistive touchscreens are one of the two common technologies used to provide a direct interface with the equipment being controlled; the other uses a capacitive, or more recently, a projected capacitive technology.
Resistive touchscreens are a multilayer fabrication. A conductive indium tin oxide (ITO) coating is applied to the internal face of a polyester cover sheet and the opposing face of a glass backing sheet so the coatings face each other. Small transparent spacers are positioned between the glass and the cover sheet, separating them until, when pushed by a finger, gloved hand or stylus, the cover sheet deforms, forcing the two coatings into contact. The interface unit then identifies the specific location of the touched area. The typical resolution of a touchscreen is 4096 x 4096 points.
Resistive touchscreens deliver cost-effective, consistent and durable performance in environments where equipment must stand up to contaminants and liquids, such as in restaurants, factories, and hospitals. Stadium IGT can design and supply resistive touchscreens in a range of industry-standard sizes up to 24" diagonal; custom sizes to suit specific applications can also be supplied. Touchscreens can be supplied as stand-alone units or embedded into higher-level assemblies as part of an integrated system. UK design, manufacture and quality control, combined with low-cost Far East manufacture, provide a very cost effective solution for HMI units. Pricing is very competitive at all volumes from initial prototypes, through short pre-production runs to small batch fabrication and high volume manufacturing.
