Capacitive Touch Screens

Case study: Vix Acis Research and Development Vandal Proof Bus Stop Information System

Pictured below is a Capacitive Touchscreen information centre located on a bus stop, which Stadium IGT manufacture for Vix Acis Research and Development. It has been designed with the British weather and the potential of vandalism in-mind.

The flexible capacitive touchscreen is mounted to the rear of the any transparent non-conductive material, which can be up to 10mm thick (Glass, Polycarbonate, Acrylic). The Capacitive Touchscreen units are extremely reliable and can be fully sealed, enabling them to be installed in environmentally demanding areas such as onboard ships, in dirty or dusty environments, in public buildings or in the open.

IGT can support SPI, UART, RS232, I2C, USB, Interface Protocol

MaxTouch
Linear, continuous touch with a resolution of 16 x 18 grid.
Maximum screen size 15.6 inches.
Index matched ITO screens up to 270 ohms
Non-index matched ITO screens - 150 and 270 ohms
Greater power consumption saving.
Less susceptible to noise interference.
An Atmel NDA needs to be signed prior to quotation.
Agreement to proceed with development must be received from Atmel.
Minimum Order Quantity is 6,000 pieces.

Substrate
Acrylic and Polycarbonate up to 1.5mm thick
Glass up to 2mm thick.
Bonded tail maximum length 100mm (All components assembled to tail).

Q-Matrix
Fixed key positions.
Up to 56 touch key areas with a screen size 14 inches maximum using single chip.
Using 4 chips together can provide up to 224 touch key areas.
Maximum screen size 19 inches.
Protocol interface I2C, USB, UART, SPI.
No Minimum Order Quantity.

Substrate
Up to 10mm thick Acrylic, Polycarbonate and Glass.
Matched ITO film available.
